July 13, 2009 - Little Rock, Arkansas  -  American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 extended the "bonus depreciation" through 2009.

Non-customized computer software placed in service in tax years beginning before 2011 qualifies as "section 179 property".

The bonus first-year depreciation deduction equals 50% of the cost of qualified software acquired and placed in service during 2009.

Non-customized software acquired and placed in service during calendar years 2008 and 2009 is eligible for a 50%-of-cost depreciation deduction in the year that the software is placed in service (bonus depreciation). The bonus depreciation for an item of software is reduced to take into account any portion of the item's cost for which a Code Sec. 179 election is made, and regular depreciation deductions are reduced to take into account both the bonus depreciation and any Code Sec. 179 election.

CMS IntelliCAD "of-the-shelf" software qualify for both the bonus depreciation expense and also the Section 179 expense.
